Student
Visa
Student Visa - This is a temporary visa that allows an individual to study full-time in Australia whether for an English language course, vocational education and training (VET) courses, higher education, or postgraduate programs. The validity of the visa depends on the duration of the student's course. Visit the IMMI website or contact our Registered Migration Agent for more information.
There are 3 student visa subclasses. There are Student Visa (subclass 500), Student Guardian visa (subclass 590), and Training visa (subclass 407).
Student visa (subclass 500) - This visa allows the holder to participate in a course study whether for a vocational course, bachelor's degree, master's degree, or Doctorate. This is valid for up to 5 years depending on the duration of the course of the applicant. With this course, a holder can travel in and out of Australia, work up to 48 hours a fortnight when their course of study or training is in session, and bring family members. To qualify, the applicant must apply outside of Australia, be enrolled in a course of study in Australia, hold Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), must be 6 years of age or older, prove that you have welfare arrangements (for below 18 years of age), and if in Australia, the applicant must hold an eligible substantive visa. Visit the IMMI website or contact our Registered Migration Agent for more information.
Student Guardian Visa (subclass 590) - The Student Guardian Visa is an Australian visa designed for individuals who would like to accompany an international student studying in Australia. This temporary visa allows the holder to provide care to international students who are under 18 years of age or older who may need special care. The duration of this visa is dependent on the duration of the Student Visa (subclass 500) holder. To qualify, the applicant must be a parent, legal guardian, or relative of the student who is enrolled for a course in Australia. Just like Student Visa holders, Student Guardian visa holders are also required to maintain health insurance for their entire stay in Australia. However, the visa holder is not allowed to work or study in Australia unless they are allowed to. Visit the IMMI website or contact our Registered Migration Agent for more information.
Training Visa (subclass 407) - This visa allows a holder to take part in workplace-based occupational training activities to improve skills needed for a particular job, area of tertiary study, field of expertise, or in a professional development training program in Australia. This temporary visa is valid for up to 2 years. To qualify, the visa holder must be sponsored, be nominated, or be invited. Visit the IMMI website or contact our Registered Migration Agent for more information.
Overseas Health Cover (OSHC) - A private health insurance for overseas students and their dependents. It includes ambulance covers and limited pharmaceutical items.
-
It helps international students meet the costs of unplanned medical and hospital care while undertaking formal studies in Australia. Download the fact sheet here for more information, or you may contact us to organise one for you.
Australia's mandatory requirement specifically designed for Student Visa (subclass 500) holders, OSHC is a health insurance which provides medical and hospital insurance coverage to international students. This meets the costs of medical treatment and hospital care while studying in Australia and provides coverage for the duration of the visa. The cost varies depending on the duration of the student's course, the provider, and if it's single, couple, or family coverage.
